Often new puppy owners are anxious to get their new puppy checked over by a vet soon after arriving home. We are happy to welcome your new friend and will carry out a thorough clinical examination to make sure there are no health concerns.

This visit may also coincide with your puppy’s vaccinations so make sure to bring along a vaccination record card if you have received one from the breeder.

● 1st vaccination at 6-8 weeks old
● 2nd vaccination at 10-12 weeks old
● Canine cough can be given from 8 weeks old
● Annual booster vaccination 12 months later

We strongly advise pet microchipping This increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they are lost. It is a quick and cheap procedure which can be carried out at time of vaccination if you wish.

Keep your puppy and family free from worm infestations by treating regularly with appropriate worming products. There are many different wormers in shops but not all are effective against all worms. We advise you to contact us for advice on the correct wormers to use.

Puppies should be wormed
● Every 2 weeks up to 12 weeks old
● Every month up to 6 months old
● Every 3 months thereafter

Fleas and ear mites can be common in young puppies. We advise once monthly spot on or a tablet to treat and prevent these infestations. Ticks can be an issue once your new puppy ventures outdoors, especially in the summertime.

Our vets and nurses are happy to offer you advice on the best food to feed your new puppy.
We recommend a good quality complete puppy food with plenty of fresh water.
We have different dog food brands in our clinic and would be happy to discuss what would be best for your new puppy.

Neutering at a young age if you do not intend breeding later from your new puppy is the correct thing to do as it contributes to a longer and healthier life for your dog.
