Have you ever thought about what you would do if your beloved
companion went missing?
Microchipping ensures that your pet has your address & contact
details with them at all times. Unlike a collar or tag, a microchip cannot be easily removed or lost. When your pet is scanned, a unique microchip number will reveal your contact information when entered into a central database. At present there are three central databases in Ireland. These are also linked to a European database should your pet be scanned in another country.
How is the microchip implanted?
Using a specially designed implanting device, the microchip is
injected through a sterile needle under your pet’s skin between the shoulder blades. It is a very simple procedure and causes no more pain or discomfort than a routine vaccine.
It is a legal requirement, since April 2016 in Ireland to have your dog microchipped. Microchipping is a requirement when obtaining a pet passport for travel.
