Laboratory Tests

Here at Family Vets we use a range of Laboratory Tests to help us find
out more information about your pet’s health condition. This allows us
to make a more informed decision as to the most appropriate treatment of your pet.

A Clinical exam can only give us so much information as to what is
going on within the body, that’s why laboratory tests such as blood and
urine tests can prove invaluable.

Blood tests
In Family Vets we are fortunate to have our own blood analysers. This
allows us to have results, sometimes in as little as 20 minutes after
blood sampling. Being able to supply this same day service to our clients is of great help when testing pre surgical blood samples and also allows us to make treatment decisions for our ill patients more promptly than
waiting for a result to return from an external blood testing laboratory.
For more complex tests we send samples to specialist laboratories
that offer a wide variety of different diagnostic tests.

Urine tests
We have Urine analysis machines that can help us diagnose kidney,
urinary tract disease, diabetes as well as many other disease processes

Skin tests
We also use our inhouse microscope to examine skin scrapings, ear
plucks and swabs to help with diagnosis of amongst others – parasitic,
fungal, bacterial skin and ear disease.
